What we collect
Closer is for two people, and almost everything in it is written by you for your connected partner. We collect only what the app needs to work, and we do not sell your data.
Your account: your name, email address and an account identifier from Sign in with Apple or Google, your date of birth, your photo or avatar, and the short relationship profile from sign-up. What you and your partner make in Closer: your answers, your shared memories, and the comments and reactions on them, the notes and stories you leave each other, and the doodle you draw together — one shared picture per couple, which we keep as drawn lines until one of you clears it. How the app is used: which screens are opened, which decks are started, and taps and scrolls, tied to your account identifier. If you turn them on: a device token for notifications, and a coarse location, rounded to about a kilometre, of which we keep only the most recent. Whether Closer Plus is active, as reported by the store you bought it from; we never see your payment details. If you write to us from Support in the app: your messages, any screenshot you attach, and — so that it makes sense to us — your app version and build, your device model and operating system, your language, whether you have Plus, your account identifier and the screen you came from.
On our website: if you ask to hear when Closer is on Google Play, the email address you give us, the date, and the link that brought you there if there was one. We do not keep your IP address; to stop the form being misused we keep a one-way code made from it and the date, which cannot be turned back into it.
How we use it
To run Closer: sign you in, connect you with your partner, hold each answer until you have both answered, count your streak, keep your memories, deliver notifications you turned on, and know whether Closer Plus is active for you. To keep Closer working: fix bugs, prevent abuse, understand which parts of the app are used, and meet our legal obligations. To answer you: we read what you send from Support and reply in the same conversation in the app. To tell you Closer is on Google Play: if you left your email on our website for that, we write to it once, when the app is there, and never for anything else.
We do not sell what you write, and we do not use it to train machine-learning models. Where the law asks for a legal basis, ours are our contract with you, your consent for the things you switch on, and our legitimate interest in keeping Closer secure and improving it.
Who we share it with
Your answers go to one person: your partner, and only once you have both answered. Beyond that, we share data only with the providers that run Closer for us, on our instructions and under contracts that protect it at least as well as this policy: Apple and Google for sign-in and payments, Cloudflare for hosting and storage, RevenueCat for subscriptions, PostHog and Microsoft for the usage analytics described above, Photon for place search, and Expo for delivering notifications. They are mainly in the United States, so your data is processed there. We may also disclose data where the law requires it, to enforce our terms, or to a successor if Closer is ever sold, under this same policy.
How long we keep it and how to delete it
We keep your account and its content for as long as your account exists. Notes, moods and stories are the exception: each note, mood and story photo is deleted 24 hours after it was left — except that your own story photos are then kept in your private story archive, which only you can see, until you delete them or your account. You can delete any answer, memory or photo at any time, and you can delete your whole account in the app: Settings, then Delete account. That removes your profile, your content, your streak and any stored location, disconnects you from your partner, and cannot be undone. Backup copies are gone within 30 days. Turning off notifications or location deletes the token or the location immediately. Your support conversation is kept until you delete your account, when it goes with everything else. An email address left on our website for Google Play is deleted once we have sent that one email, or sooner if you ask at support@trycloserapp.com.
Your rights
You can access, correct and delete your data, most of it yourself in Settings, and withdraw any consent you gave at any time. For anything else, email support@trycloserapp.com and we will respond within 30 days at no cost. Depending on where you live you may also have rights to a copy of your data, to restrict its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We do not sell personal data, so there is nothing to opt out of.
Age
Closer is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it, and we ask for your date of birth to check. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, write to support@trycloserapp.com and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy as Closer changes. The date at the top says when it last changed, and we will tell you in the app before a significant change takes effect.
Contact
This policy covers the Closer app and the website at trycloserapp.com. "We" means the operator of Closer. Questions about it, or about your data: support@trycloserapp.com.
