Terms of service
Last updated September 27, 2026
Agreement
These terms are the agreement between you and the operator of Closer ("we", "us") for the Closer app and the website at trycloserapp.com. By creating an account or using Closer you accept them; if you do not accept them, do not use Closer. They take effect on September 16, 2026.
Closer is entertainment and connection software for two people in a relationship. It is not therapy, counselling, medical or mental-health advice, legal advice, or a crisis service. If you need help, contact a qualified professional or your local emergency number.
Who can use Closer
You must be 18 or older to use Closer, and by using it you confirm that you are. We ask for your date of birth at sign-up to check, and we may close an account if we learn the person behind it is under 18. You must also be able to enter a binding contract where you live.
Your account and your partner
You sign in with Apple or Google, so keeping your account secure means keeping that account and your device secure. One account belongs to one person, and you are responsible for what happens under yours.
Closer connects two accounts: one of you shares an invite code and the other accepts it, so only send the code to the person you mean to connect with. You can have one partner at a time, and either of you can disconnect at any time. After disconnecting, neither of you can see the other's answers or your shared archive in Closer, but anything your partner already saw or saved is out of our hands.
Acceptable use
What you write in Closer goes to one person: your connected partner. You agree not to use Closer to harass, threaten, deceive or harm anyone, including your partner; not to upload unlawful content, content that infringes someone else's rights, or sexual content involving anyone under 18; and not to impersonate anyone or connect an account to a person who has not agreed to it.
You also agree not to try to reach another user's answers, memories or account, not to interfere with our systems or scrape content, and not to reverse engineer the app except where the law says you may. We may remove content, or suspend or close an account, that breaks these rules.
Your content
You own what you write and upload — your answers, notes, photos and comments — and we claim no ownership of any of it. You give us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, transmit and display it for the sole purpose of operating Closer for you and your partner; the licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from backup copies that expire on the schedule in our privacy policy.
You confirm that you have the right to upload what you upload, including photos of other people. We do not sell your content and we do not use it to train machine-learning models. The questions, decks, artwork, software and the Closer name belong to us, and you may use the app on devices you own for your own non-commercial use.
Closer Plus
Closer Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription. Without it, the two of you have the first deck of every collection and one more deck each day, every reveal, your streak with two freezes, up to ten memories, three story photos a day, and every home screen widget except How far apart. Closer Plus adds every deck, as many story photos and memories as you like, widgets on your lock screen, the How far apart widget, and a third freeze for your streak. It is offered monthly or yearly at the price shown in the App Store or Google Play in your local currency, and payment is charged to your store account at confirmation of purchase.
Closer Plus renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your store account is charged within 24 hours before it renews. You can manage or cancel your subscription in the store you bought it from: in the App Store, under your device Settings, your name, then Subscriptions; in Google Play, under your profile, then Payments and subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals, and your access runs to the end of the period you already paid for. There is no free trial.
One subscription covers both connected partners, so whoever buys it, you both have Closer Plus while it is active and you stay connected. Purchases are made through the store, so refunds are handled by Apple or Google under the terms of the store you bought it from, not by us.
Apple's standard licence terms
Closer is licensed, not sold, to you. Where these terms are silent and you got Closer from the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies and you agree to it: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ Where you got Closer from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service apply in its place.
This agreement is between you and the operator of Closer, not the store you got it from. Apple is not responsible for Closer or its content and has no obligation to support it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Google is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for Closer.
Ending it
You can stop using Closer at any time, and you can delete your account in the app under Settings, which removes your answers and the memories you created and disconnects you from your partner. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering Closer — and if we shut it down, we will give reasonable notice where we can. The sections on your content, disclaimers and liability, and governing law survive the end of this agreement.
Disclaimers and liability
Closer is provided as is and as available: we do our best to keep it running, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will preserve your content forever, so keep your own copies of photos you care about, and to the extent the law allows we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, for lost profits or lost data, or for harm to a relationship, and our total liability for any claim relating to Closer is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or twenty-five US dollars. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you are a consumer your statutory rights are unaffected by these terms.
Governing law, changes and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of that state have exclusive jurisdiction — though if you are a consumer, this does not take away the mandatory protections of the country you live in or your right to bring a claim in your local courts.
We may update these terms as Closer changes. The date at the top says when they last changed, and we will tell you in the app before a change that matters to you takes effect; continuing to use Closer after that means you accept the update. Questions: support@trycloserapp.com.
